Aretha was a friend. I still remember the day she called me for the 1st time. It was one of the most surreal moments of my entire life! I truly idolized her as a vocalist, arranger and pianist and never, ever thought that one day we’d be working together or much less sharing our personal thoughts on life and music. We talked maybe once or twice a year since that chance 2008 meeting at the RnB Awards but she was always real and colorful to say the least. :) Aretha was an original, truly a one of a kind talent and human being and there will never, ever be another like her. I was blessed to know her and I will truly miss her.
